Francis Farberoff has been shaping U.S. Beach Soccer’s Greatest Eras for nearly more than two decades. He has been a pivotal figure in the development of beach soccer in the United States. As a player, he captained the U.S. Men’s National Beach Soccer Team from 2003 to 2014, representing the country in eight Beach Soccer World Cups.

The US National Team Golden Era: 2005-2008

this time, the US team captured two straight CONCACAF Championships and appeared in three straight World Cups. A highlight of this era was in Acapulco in 2007, where the team not only won the CONCACAF but also triumphed over Uruguay, the runner-up behind Brazil in 2006, to win an unofficial Inter-Continental Championship.

The US had proven formidable facing Brazil in group play in 2006. Brazil, the host of the World Cup and eventual Champion, showcased a goal-scoring frenzy in front of a full house of over 10,000 fans on Copacabana in Rio de Janeiro. The team led by Farberoff was not deterred as they struck 6 goals against the defending and eventual champions Brazil. The US lost 10-6, but that was two more goals than any other team scored on them, and 6/10 goals they gave up in the first round. Ultimately, Brazil went on to beat Uruguay in the final 4-1, and less than a year later the US Men’s Team beat Uruguay in the qualifying tournament.
